The current setup we utilise in our Volvo 940 Turbo is a stereo head unit that we plug our iPhone 6 into (yes, we know we’re living in the past but then we are classic enthusiasts after all…) for charging and music, using the phone itself for navigation when required so we thought we’d plumb the Carpuride system in and see how easy it is to a) set up and b) to live with on a day to day basis. But after upgrading to iOS17 on my iPhone12 pro, the CarPlay stopped working (I could still use Bluetooth, but CarPlay was what was important to me). Carpuride is an automotive electronics company with a mission to make cars more interesting through technological innovation and its flagship 9 inch touchscreen wireless HD display is chock full of features. Never worry about heating and battery damage caused by using your mobile phone for navigation for a long time. If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag.
The fact that this unit starts up every time, connects to my phone correctly every time, and just works, has now removed lots of frustrations that I had when I would get in the car to do a road trip or a trip somewhere, and try to pull up maps, but have to wait for the startup time, and then sometimes the connectivity didn’t connect, and so I would have to reconnect. You can give your car a major upgrade with a head unit -- and some options are pretty affordable, like this 9-inch wireless heads up car display from Carpuride. We were interested to see how much improved functionality we would see with a dedicated device that encapsulates all of the functions we would need in one place. I used the windshield mount and that works but suction isn’t as strong as I’d like and I wish the arm was more of a snake mount rather than the straight bar.But those tiny screens can make it tempting to take hold of our devices, even with hands-free laws in effect. And if you want to add a rearview camera to your car, there is an optional rear camera accessory kit that also works alongside this display. But that does add a little bit of bulk around it, in terms of its depth, to cater to such a big screen. It might not be able to turn your heater on for you but there are still a whole host of useful functions to enjoy and a decent setup can seriously update your classic, dragging the old girl kicking and screaming into the twenty-first century.
Note: Volkswagen needs to install an extra relay to install the rearview camera, camera is not included in the package. It sits nicely between my existing touchpad console for the car, and also my utility buttons for controlling other parts of the car, as you’ll see in the photos. Its base offers a solid foundation with plenty of tilt adjustment to get the perfect angle in your car interior.Apps like Plex and YouTube Music also streamed well from the app to the display, with audio also in sync, however, more strict copyrighted streaming apps, like Netflix, Prime and Disney+ would not display video, but it would playback audio.
So overall, the video streaming experience for Android isn’t as good or reliable as it is on iPhone. Using Autolink however, on Android with its App and a cable connection, had some surprising audio sync delay issues from YouTube. OK, maybe not that last one but these systems are becoming more and more advanced and more commonplace every year.New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging . Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto took around 18 seconds and 12 seconds respectively to connect wirelessly to the display.
