Description

There is one chapter in this book where I was so immersed in the story that I was actually shouting “NOOOOO” and my heart was hammering! When Cara stumbles upon a stash of old postcards up in the attic, their contents make her question everything that she believed she knew. What I like like less is the inevitable long passages of characters examining their consciences and replaying events to themselves, which is characteristic of her writing, and I tend to skim through these.

The matter finally resolves itself in a totally unexpected way, when the source of the cash is revealed. But at what cost? I received a free advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. Should they be honest and pass it over to the police for investigation? Declare it as part of his estate, risking losing a huge chunk to inheritance tax, or divvy it up between the three? What Clark does well is to describe and develop the characters, and the hidden dislike and resentment between them. A disclaimer must apply to the whole gift, so you can’t refuse part of the estate while accepting some of it and the heir must not have received any of the gift before the person died. If you disclaim your inheritance, this means you can’t ever become the legal owner so it is a step that should be taken after due consideration. Neither can the person who disclaims the inheritance then decide who receives his or her share among the remaining beneficiaries. From the bestselling author of Reluctantly Home comes a story of three siblings and a suitcase full of cash. Will the unexpected windfall tear them apart? Caroline and Max could do with their share of the money. Gambling addict Nathan definitely could, and even affluent Ellie and James could put it to good use but there’s probably something dodgy about it, right? Who keeps over a quarter of a million pounds under their bed if it’s legit? You might also know someone who would enjoy my series of books for teenage girls writing as Lucinda Fox. You can find them here.

Well, as the author I would say that the book is actually about honesty and integrity and what they look like to you. This novel explores the scenario of an unexpected discovery by a family member, on the death of their father. It is an interesting idea for a novel, and is written with plenty of cliff-hangers to keep the reader interested. You’d have thought the discovery of a suitcase stuffed with money would bring joy to this tight-knit family. Not a bit of it. It tears them apart. Not only is there doubt about the legality of the stash, and what their father had done to obtain it, but they all have conflicting views of how it should be split, if at all. Imogen Clark pens thoughtful contemporary women’s fiction all about the secrets which hide at the heart of the fictional families she creates. The story follows a family who loses their Dad unexpectedly. A member finds a suitcase of cash under the bed and there the story begins. The family has their own changes/demons and challenges to overcome throughout the book and decide what would be the right, moral thing to do.

From million-copy bestselling author Imogen Clark comes a story of three siblings and a suitcase full of cash. Will the unexpected windfall tear them apart? Max, Ellie and Nathan have suddenly lost their beloved larger than life father. When it falls to Max and his wife Caroline to clear his house out, she finds a suitcase full of money! Postcards at Christmas” is the second novel in the “Postcards” series and was released in the year 2019. Is Cara’s family past ruin her Christmas present, or is she going to let love in?I returned to this quote after reading An Unwanted Inheritance because, to me, whether intentional or coincidental, Imogen Clark's latest novel is an examination of the subtle differences in the Bible saying we may have heard, with or without the love part. The three siblings have always been close. But now, with this money from nowhere threatening to rewrite what they thought they knew about their father and their family, nothing seems certain. Could it really tear them apart? We complete hundreds of pro-bono cases every year, helping with stories of reunions of family separated by war or forced adoption and reuniting people with family heirlooms such as their ancestors lost war medals or long-lost books.
