Description

Turning a low-profile shower tray into a raised one by using a shower tray riser kit is possible. This consists of adjustable legs and clip-on side covers which conceal the legs and pipe work. These covers can be removed easily as and when needed to gain access to the pipes. Due to the damp damage to the walls we had to remove quite a few tiles, not only as they were loose, but also to replace the damaged sections of wall. An essential for any shower enclosure installation, shower trays provide a waterproof platform for you to stand on comfortably while showering. Our truly comprehensive collection boasts over 200 shower tray options to ensure you find a tray that perfectly suits your space no matter how distinctive your tastes. Installing or fitting a shower tray is very much dependent on the type of tray you are installing and the surface it’s being installed on. Alternatively, if the pipes and waste are above the floor, you’ll need a raised shower tray. They have a high outer lip, and the base of the tray is raised above the floor to accommodate the plumbing pipes and the wastes underneath.

A hole will also need to be cut for your shower tray wasteso take some accurate measurements and very carefully start creating the space you need. Once this is done you can go ahead and assemble the waste itself. Step 4 - Lay MortarThe compression joint screw cap was then tightened pinch tight to secure the waste pipe in place. Advice on plastic compression wastes and how they go together can be seen in our project here.

Before placing the tray down in place, we first replaced the sections of flooring that had been removed that would sit under the shower tray. At the end of the tray we also created a trap door. This was simply a section of flooring that could be easily unscrewed and removed so that we could access the waste. You'll find a plethora of popular shapes including square, rectangle, quadrant, offset and even pentagon shower trays in a variety of sizes; everything from 700mm to 1700mm+, including small shower trays and 900 x 800 shower trays. The range even includes several deep shower trays, perfect for retaining more water in the base of your shower enclosure. Built to last, you can select from a huge number of durable materials too with acrylic, slate effect, ceramic, anti-slip and stone resin shower trays available in various vibrant finishes. How to seal a shower tray? As we had to replace most of the floor area that the tray would be sitting on, this gave us the opportunity to ensure that the floor would be totally flat and level for the tray to sit on.All trays are acrylic capped and constructed from a polyurethane resin mixed with filler including clay beads making them the strongest and lightest available Once the tray has set and is fully secured, the waste can now be connected up. In this case we were using the existing waste so we pushed the end of the waste pipe up under the floor (with the screw cap, washer and tapered rubber seal in place) and using a torch, located it within the connection on the tray’s waste trap.

As we have mentioned installing a new shower tray with the waste in the same position as the old one should minimize potentially a great deal of work. Matrix Ultimate Walk In Enclosure 10mm Glass (inc. 850mm Main Screen with 240mm Return Panel,783mmSide Panel and1400 x 800mmTray) Connect the new waste to the trap outlet and ensure there are no leaks. You can easily do this with a hose from a nearby tap or use a watering can. Low Profile Shower Tray Once the tile adhesive has cured, you can then get some grout in there. Use a suitable sponge to force the grout in to the joint, making sure it’s fully filled with no gaps. Tips on grouting can be found in our project here.

Low Profile Shower Tray

Once the tile adhesive had cured correctly the battens were removed leaving roughly a 2 inch gap that we could then tile once the ray was fully in place. For further help and advice on ceramic tiling, see our project here. If you're buying a shower tray to go with an existing shower enclosure, the two parts must be the same size and shape. This is so they can form a watertight seal when they are joined together. The type of floor the shower tray is being fitted on should be considered before installation, as some adjustments may need to be made. For example:
