Description

For stylish coffee lovers, this espresso tamper is such a beauty in the eyes as it is quite elegant and provides aesthetic beauty. The BlueSnail Company paid attention to detail and gave extra care when making this product- the 51 mm base is entirely compatible with a lot of consumer-grade espresso machines, and you can easily apply enough pressure to your ground coffee, for it to compress. Despite the small caveat, it is a great product that is ideal for amateur and professional baristas as it will give a quality coffee compared to those made with plastic espresso tamper. Best for: The Pesado tampers are one of the few made entirely from stainless steel. This means you have a very durable and weighty product with the Pesado, one that will last you for years. If you're constantly changing tamping pressure (because you're using a daft plastic scoopy tamper thing, or a fish, which would probably work just as well) you'll never fully appreciate the impact of the changes you're making. What I'd suggest, is that you focus the upgradeitis on the areas of greatest return for the smallest investment, which would be the coffee, the grinder & the tamper. The Matow calibrated coffee tamper comes in a 53mm size, is 94mm in height and has a flat base. The base has been constructed from stainless steel and the handle is made from high quality aluminium which won’t rust or stain.

The blurb states this is to protect the base from the kitchen worktop, but come on, it's stainless steel! So now you know what is an espresso tamper, you might be wondering, if that’s the same as a coffee distributor (also often called a coffee leveller)? Well no, they are different tools and used for different purposes. Too big and the tamper won’t fit inside the portafilter, while too small and you won’t get evenly compacted grounds. Shape – Flat vs Convex Tamper Another tamper from the well known coffee gear brand Motta, but this one has a slightly different shaped handle, maybe one to try if you haven't got on with more standard handle shapes. Best for: Whether you’re a professional barista or just starting out and want the best tools from the get go, the Espro tamper is well worth investing in.

This started out as a technique involving a pointy implement, like a needle, and stirring up the grounds in the basket, in concentric circles. Tamping is a really important part of the coffee making process because if you don’t tamp, you’ve basically got a loose pile of grounds in your portafilter, which doesn’t make for a great coffee. We’ve talked about the different espresso tamper sizes above, so you now understand that it is vital that you know the size of your portafilter before considering what size tamper you need. This is completely down to the individual. I personally prefer handled tampers to flat tampers, and I prefer heavier weight bases with wooden handles. I'm not a big fan of the all-metal tampers, as I just find wood is a bit nicer to hold than metal, but each to their own.

Recaps also offer tampers in different sizes to suit Dolce Gusto machines and Nespresso original lines. Pros That is the Rattleware Round Handle tamper is a reliable and sturdy tamper built to last and deliver consistent pressure for a perfect espresso. If you're looking for bigger jumps in your home espresso game, though, once you've got yourself a better tamper, the next thing I'd consider is the grinder situation.Tamping is a key part of the espresso-making process, and the “tampers” with which a lot of domestic espresso machines are shipped are a joke! Well, they're not tampers at all.
