Sony's first adapter, the LA-EA1, only had a motor for the aperture, but the LA-EA2 added one for the focus screw drive. Or are you saying it was good for Canon to realize that the old mount hit its limit and was holding them back and it was time to move forward exactly like Nikon and the Z mount. The good news is that you can find used FTZs for not that much now, and I'd expect a continuation of the bundle deals with the FTZ II in future. That allowed them to release just a simple electronic adapter with no mechanical parts that still supports all EF lens features. They had refined that to the point where it didn't disrupt weather sealing on G and E lenses, so why lose it?

This product has been thoroughly tested by our team of photographers and we are happy to give a 6 month warranty as a result. m_black: Sony has been selling adapters supporting screw-drive A-Mount since before there even were full-frame E-Mount bodies. I and several others have already demonstrated with utmost clarity that your argument doesn’t make any sense. Nikon just plain blew it, they could have had full manual support, and full electronic support for all of their F lenses on their Z bodies, if it wasn't for a few bad mount decisions back in the late 1980s. As an adapter, the FTZ II enables the use of nearly any F-mount lens on Z-mount mirrorless camera bodies.

Featuring a streamlined design with minimal projections, the Nikon FTZ II Mount Adapter offers the same functionality as the original FTZ but with a sleeker design to suit its use on cameras featuring a battery grip. With some lenses, the camera vibration reduction feature may not function as expected or may cause vignetting or a drop in peripheral illumination. EF-S was a convenient way to get wide angle lenses closer to the sensor (smaller mirror box allows for the glass to protrude into the body more) for better image quality and some size reductions. While it's disappointing that Nikon hasn't found a solution for autofocus with AF-D and AF lenses, the most recent AF-D lens was released in (checks notes) 2000.

Canon can provide full compatibility for all EF lenses, even ones from the 1980s, that is a good design. Let's better appreciate what we have, consider what gives us joy, and get out there to take some photos. This also applies to accessories that are supplied with the camera including batteries which may have a lower optimum performance level/life expectancy. MPB Europe Ltd acts as a broker and offers credit solely from PayPal Credit, a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH. But this chunky yet competent backpack doesn't have a killer feature or look that makes it stand out from some pretty tough competition.

My position is that it was better to bite the bullet 30 years ago and have 30 years of 100% compatibility now than how Nikon has handled it. The new adapter offers no additional functionality compared to the original, and if you're planning on rocking a Z5, Z6 or Z7-series camera for a while, there's probably no reason to upgrade.
