However remote the terrain, Ordnance Survey maps give you the accurate, detailed information you need to navigate safely. The Gower Way and St Illytd's Way are covered in the area to the West of Swansea around Llanelli and the Mumbles. However, it is essential to consult the tide schedule, conveniently displayed on a nearby board, as access to the promontory is limited to a two-hour window on either side of low tide. You can walk over the hill from Mumbles, or (much longer) follow the coast path around the headland. Showcasing the best and little-known parts of Gower, The Gower Way is a mid-distance footpath that the Society mapped out to mark the Millennium. The uplands are littered with Neolithic remains, most notably the burial chamber topped by the 25-ton Arthur's Stone. The Wales Coast Path runs around the coastline, taking in the dramatic cliffs and coves of the south, and the quieter saltmarshes of the north. You are asked to avoid climbing on to the islands during the spring (bird nesting season), but many don't.Measure distances, view elevation, switch layers, find amenities, and preview in 3D before your hike. Its a lovely cliff walk to the beach, about 1/2 mile, but the last part which gently descends sand dunes isnot wheelchair accessable. Sand dunes leading out to Burry Holms (headland), Spaniards Rocks and Blue Pool (a rock pool) at the north end of Rhossili beach. The oldest buried human remains in Britain were found on Gower, dating back more than 30,000 years: the 'Red Lady' of Paviland (who later turned out to be a fella).

To celebrate the Millennium, the Gower Society planned a symbolic link across the area covered by the ancient lordship of Gower between Penlle'r Castell in the north-east and Rhossili in the far south-west of the peninsula. The 2 dead end roads to it, from Llangennith and Llanmadoc (much quieter) are both single track leading to the caravan parks and their pay car park. But the least visited of all is Blue Pool Bay, accessible only after a yomp over dunes from Broughton Bay on the remote northwest corner. Llangennith village (pub, church) leads down to a large Caravan park / camp site with a cafe in the dunes.
