The game plays with 4-6 players, and is a great for mixed groups as kids, teens, parents, and grandparents alike can learn the game in minutes and enjoy it for hours. It’s great if you control the giant money pile, but as soon as you lose it, it’s gone forever and you’ve just given the game to another player. While there are some fun ones out there, I usually get tired of them quickly and replay value is low for me. My favorite moments are sneaking in after a hard-fought, costly battle between two other players and effortlessly taking the entire stack…to the chagrin of the previous winner!

You're not defenseless though; you can reveal your own matching assets or wild cards to protect your top set. With only four cards to chose from, the chances of having multiple copies of any particular asset aren't extremely high, so you're really taking your chances every time you put down a set of assets. When playing with three players you use all of the cards and each player only has a hand of five cards. Everything is done very professionally with this company and always lets you know every step of the process.The player can defend themselves by playing another card from their hand either matching the asset or a wild. Sometimes that gold mine stack everyone’s had their eye on will be exposed at JUST the right time for you to swoop in and snatch it for the victory. The game continues like this until the draw pile is empty and then each player must continue pairing, discarding and challenging each other until all cards have been played.

The game box holds two poker-sized card boxes each containing half the cards, and in each box you also get a bonus card with Grandma Beck's Cheesy Dip recipe. I mean, you may not appreciate the pun, but beyond that it’s a fairly simple, fairly quick, and fairly cute game. The same gameplay and rules as our original version, and now with updated artwork and optional advanced play. If the top card of the discard pile matches a card from your hand, you may take it and play the pair in your asset pile. Once you have at least one set of assets in your stack, you may attempt to steal assets from any player with two sets of assets in their stack.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The decision space is limited enough that downtime doesn’t increase a ton, and also you can get robbed by any player at any time, so there’s still stuff happening even when it isn’t your turn. Either way, playing this makes me interested to see if additional complexity will make the game more or less interesting, so I may check out Cover Your Kingdom soon, should the Kickstarter fund.
