However, at times it did feel like I was being given too little information in an effort to build some mystery and it meant that I didn't really care about any of the guys in this book because I didn't really learn anything about them in the present. If you love dance, your men on the criminal side, alpha hot holes and the friends-to-enemies-to-lovers trope, this is for you. And then worse for poor Pen here it seems she’s being personally tormented in some horrible and cruel ways by all the men in her life.

There were quite a few times throughout the whole book, but especially Finale, that really got to me. There were some things not disclose properly in the book but I hope to get that clarify while I read book 2. We also only learn about characters that seem to be really important at the very end, even though Pen already knew that person. Freestyle is book one of this dark gang romance with gangsters who can dance and deals with adult themes and some subjects you may find upsetting. Dance might have brought us back together, but it’s going to take more than a beautiful routine to keep us all alive. However, this is still a 4 star read because of the men and the world building - and I can't wait for the 2nd book in the series! This is former best friends nearly lovers turned enemies with second chance to fight for each other, with gangs and dance. I just wanted her to be a baddie and not show them any emotions she obvs still has for them and be a cold motherfucker.

Okay so I know absolutely nothing about dancing so I didn’t really connect with dancing to express your emotions to each other. She "hated" them, wanted them gone, but every time they talked or flirted with other girls IN FRONT OF HER (assholes, super mature) she would get angry and had to control herself not to punch the girl they were with. Flashbacks play a great deal in the first book, and it leads to the reader not only knowing Pen and her men, but also knowing what broke them apart. There are some pretty horrible things that happened throughout the book, but there are also some pretty amazing things. Lyrical is book two of this dark gang romance, featuring gangsters who can dance, and deals with adult themes and some subjects you may find upsetting.I tried to keep these at a minimum, but as I am talking about the whole series, it did become a little hard. It kept me entertained, it was fun, it was intriguing, it was mysterious, I loved the plot and I loved the characters.

I hope the next books will rely less on flashbacks and obfuscation and I can get a better sense of what is happening in the present. This book had everything you want , the angst that breaks your heart in the right way , the pain that makes you feel so much and the vulnerable scenes that you want to capture and keep with you forever! I didn’t really hate the pov switch as much as I hated how the chapter featuring the ‘now’ was all about the MCs being enemies and separated by betrayal and lies.

I am sad to say I will continue the series, as I do want to continue to hate it and have all the arguments for said hate.
